DESCRIPTION
I have worked across many disciplines in the engineering world. Hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting on offshore wind turbines at E.ON Energy. Electronics and control systems through a Robotics and Mechatronics degree at Hull. Industrial systems engineering at British Steel, working with telemetry, sensors, and legacy production systems. Software engineering at SECOM Plc and on my own ventures.
It is the same kind of work whether the system is mechanical, electronic, or software. Sensors, actuators, controllers, feedback loops, disturbances. I work mostly in software now because that is where most broken business loops sit.
At SECOM UK I lead the engineering work on a new internal platform that replaces several legacy systems, closing loops the business currently runs by hand.
EXPERIENCE
Lead Software Engineer, SECOM Plc
Sep 2024 — Present- · Technical lead for architecting and delivering enterprise internal systems, replacing fragmented spreadsheet-driven business processes.
- · Design and build scalable backend services to ingest, transform, and synchronise operational data across on-premises and third-party systems.
- · Built a centralised platform automating core business workflows and mission-critical document generation across the organisation.
- · Own end-to-end system architecture, deployment strategy, and operational reliability across new and legacy-integrated services.
- · Lead phased modernisation of legacy platforms into service-based systems while ensuring uninterrupted business continuity.
Founder / Software Engineer, Gnome Trader
Mar 2024 — Present- · Designed and built an automated crypto-based settlement and delivery system integrating blockchain transactions with real-time backend services.
- · Implemented Python services using FastAPI, WebSockets, Redis, and PostgreSQL to coordinate event-driven workflows and stateful task execution.
- · Built reconciliation logic to verify on-chain Solana transactions before triggering downstream fulfilment and confirmation flows.
- · Reduced end-to-end delivery latency from approximately one hour of manual processing to sub-20-second automated execution.
- · Engineered the system to handle concurrent orders, partial failures, and retry-safe processing across distributed components.
Systems Engineer, British Steel
Jan 2024 — Sep 2024- · Worked on operational systems supporting logistics, asset tracking, and financial reporting across large-scale industrial operations.
- · Developed and maintained data pipelines combining GPS telemetry, on-site sensor data, and legacy systems to support real-time decision-making.
- · Interfaced with and maintained legacy Fortran-based systems critical to ongoing production and reporting workflows.
- · Built and validated datasets used for cost tracking, efficiency analysis, and operational optimisation.
Offshore Wind Turbine Engineer, E.ON Energy
Sep 2015 — May 2018- · Hands-on maintenance role on offshore wind turbines in a safety-critical industrial environment, prior to transitioning into software engineering.
